Puppy obedience training is to provide your puppy with a cue of voice commands such as, sit, down, stay and come. When training your puppy it is wise to have treats available to reward good behavior.
Things you need to know about these commands:
Sit -This is a simple command and should be the first thing on your list to train your puppy. Hold a treat in your left hand point at the floor and say in a clear voice sit, It may take a few attempts, and encouragement may be needed. Use your free hand to push the puppies bum to the floor, be sure to have the treat ready as a reward.
Down – Teach this command from the sitting position, again with a treat in hand say in a clear voice down and use a different hand gesture to sit so your puppy can understand the difference, and as always have those treats ready!
Stay – This command is also thought from the sitting position. Tell your puppy to sit and then in a clear voice tell your puppy to stay. Move back one or two steps, then gradually get further, it is important to only reward your puppy if he/she stays in the position and does not move.
Come – This is usually taught after the stay commands. Simply tell your puppy to come in a positive tone and open your arms wide in a welcoming gesture, again reward your puppy straight away.
These tips will help that young pup learn to obey simple commands. Remember to start training in a quite environment, when he/she advances, go somewhere with a few more distractions.
