A very heartbreaking story has recently emerged about a loving husband who smuggled his dying wife’s beloved, and forbidden pet, past security in a suitcase so she could see him “one more time” in hospital.
Now the husband faces even more heartbreak because now every time his dog sees a suitcase, she assumes she is going to visit her again sick owner again – more than 12 months after she died.
Reddit user Mellifluous_Username shared the harrowing tale “one year, three days, and fourteen hours” after losing his soul mate.
His wife had undergone “very invasive surgery ” The surgery wasn’t as successful as hoped and left her unable to speak, eat or drink, and relying completely on IV and strong pain meds to function.
After some time in a rare moment of speech she managed to convince her husband to sneak her much loved pet into her room so she could she her “one last time”
“When we entered the room, my wife was asleep. I unzipped the suitcase, and the dog immediately jumped on the bed, and gingerly laid across her chest, somehow avoiding the wires and IV.” wrote the husband. “My wife hugged her for almost an hour, smiling the whole time.”
Sadly his wife passed a few days later and now whenever he grabs a suitcase the confused dog thinks they are going on another trip, he added “It’s gotten to the point that when we put her in another room to pack the suitcase, she KNOWS, and thinks we are keeping her from her Mommy.”
