We all love summer and as it’s just around the corner here’s some tips to make sure your dog loves the summer too.
1) Do NOT leave your dog unattended when you go out.
Really this is one for all weather but this becomes especially essential during the summer season. Remember that what might seem like a mild heat to you can be a scorching blaze to your dog so leaving your dog in a parked car while you shop is an absolute no. While leaving the windows rolled down can help, the temperature in a parked car under the sun can hit unbearable levels.
2) Be sure that your home’s air conditioning is working.
If you have an outdoor dog, it may be best to consider keeping him indoors for as long as the extreme summer weather persists. Try to keep your home cool and comfortable, and always make sure water is readily available. A hydrated pup is a happy pup.
3) Regular trips to the barbers.
If you can, get rid of the burden of a thick coat off your pet and be sure to make him well groomed. Would you wear a fur coat in 90 degree weather? No? Me neither, but your dog does. Help him out with regular trimming.
4) Let him splash around.
When your dog is up or some fun and games one of the best ways to make it an easy summer for him is to get a small wading pool. The relief of the cool water will make your dog think he’s in heaven. Feel free to join in. A wading pool is a great way for you to have some fun with your pet too.
Phrases like “a dog in heat” or “the dog days of summer” didn’t come from nowhere. Take good care of your pup in these times and I assure you this summer will be the best one yet, for both of you.
