Most, if not all, dogs love to run, jump and play. However some dogs love it just a little too much, some dogs just don’t stop and it can drive you mad. Here a few short tips to dealing with a high energy dog.
Make sure your dog exercises daily. Running and long walks help to harness some of that energy. Arrange dog dates with neighborhood dogs. Running around with other dogs works well to give him his energetic fix better than you can.
Give your pooch chew toys that last. When you leave the house keep him occupied with interactive toys to keep him stimulated, such as treat mazes. Giving these types of toys to your dog will give him a purpose throughout the day and calm him down greatly.
. Crate Training
Crate train your dog. While you shouldn’t over use a crate, crate training helps dogs who use their energy to become destructive in your absence.
Do not make leaving an event. When you have to leave, do it quietly. Simply give him a chew toy or place a bowl of food by his crate. This will make him less over excited when you return, and calmer throughout the day/night.
These tips will help you but be sure to take your dog to the vet if his over activeness persists.
