It seems to be a common misconception that dogs can’t happily live in apartments. This is simply not true, and if you live in the city in an apartment, don’t let this put you off getting a dog. Here are the 3 main things you need to know.
What you need to consider.
Choose your breed or mix breed with careful consideration. Things like the dog’s size, barking tendencies and general temperament are very important. This can be a double edged sword as some larger breeds are less active and smaller breeds tend to be quite boisterous, so do your research!
– Location, Location, Location.
Take a look around the neighborhood in which you live/moving to. Make sure there a spaces which dogs will enjoy like tree lined streets and parks that are close by to your home.
– Time management
If you work full time you have to consider how you plane to manage your time. For example can your dog hold it’s bladder for a full work day until you arrive home? What about walks and fresh air? These are questions you have to ask yourself. A good thing to look into when living in a city are dog walkers which you can find for a reasonable price.
With the proper training and reassurance dogs can be more than happy in an apartment/city life. All it takes is a bit of patience and the open arms of a lovable owner. So if you live in the city in an apartment don’t let that stop you getting a little furry friend.
